Why Choose JL Audio 6W3v3-4 Component Car Subwoofer?
Excellent Linear Excursion Capability
A mid-tier 6.5-inch subwoofer that can bring you a powerful bass output and is a perfect match for your medium-powered amplifier, the JL Audio 6W3v3-4 is built with the help of advanced technologies from JL Audio's flagship W7 Series. Manufactured in the USA, the JL Audio 6W3v3-4 comes with build quality that can last for a long time at an affordable price.
Modified for Greater Strength
The JL Audio 6W3v3-4 has a polypropylene cone and a nitrile-butylene rubber surround, which improve its linear excursion for better airflow and more powerful and accurate bass output while still having the durability to be resilient from all the constant strong vibrations that come with the subwoofer continuously delivering a heart-pounding low-frequency performance.
DMA-optimized Motor Design
Equipped with JL Audio's DMA-optimized motor design, the 10W3v3-4 reduces distortion while producing a clean and punchy low-frequency performance. The JL Audio 6W3v3-4 also has JL Audio's famous Elevated Frame Cooling design, which significantly improves the 6.5-inch subwoofer's thermal management system, allowing the subwoofer to stay cool even after long periods of use.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- • Why does my digital multimeter read 3.5 Ohms instead of 4 Ohms on the 6W3v3-4?
Your speaker is perfectly healthy. The 4-Ohm specification is nominal AC impedance under normal operation. Standard handheld multimeters measure direct current resistance (Re), which naturally rests right around **3.48 Ohms** for this specific model.
- • Can I wire a single 6W3v3-4 down to a 2-Ohm load to pull more power from my amplifier?
No. This model is a Single Voice Coil (SVC) 4-Ohm driver. It only has one set of terminals, so its physical electrical impedance cannot be modified. To get a 2-Ohm load at your amp, you must wire a matching pair of 6W3v3-4 subwoofers in parallel.
- • Why does this subwoofer make a sharp clicking or popping sound on deep bass tracks?
The voice coil is physically bottoming out. Because this is a tiny 6.5-inch driver, it has a limited **8.9mm linear excursion (Xmax)**. If you force sub-bass frequencies below 35Hz into it without a proper subsonic filter, the cone will overshoot its limits.
- • Why won't my 6W3v3-4 fit into standard 6.5-inch factory door speaker cutouts?
This is a true miniature subwoofer, not a shallow door speaker. It features an oversized motor structure requiring a deep **4.25-inch mounting depth** and a large **5.50-inch cutout diameter**. Most factory door cavities are too shallow or narrow without custom spacers.
- • What is the maximum safe continuous power handling limit for this tiny subwoofer?
The absolute thermal ceiling is **150 watts RMS**. Pushing 200W–300W RMS from a standard mono amp or running a heavily clipped signal will rapidly overheat the small voice coil and cause permanent thermal failure.
- • Why does the bass output sound completely hollow, distorted, or lack punch?
The enclosure volume is likely too large or leaking. The 6W3v3-4 relies heavily on strict air-suspension backpressure. It requires an ultra-compact net internal volume of exactly **0.15 cubic feet for sealed boxes** or **0.25 cubic feet for ported boxes**.
- • Why do I hear an annoying whistling or puffing sound from my custom ported micro-box?
This is port chuffing caused by excessive air velocity. Even though the sub is small, it moves a surprising amount of air. If your custom port diameter is smaller than JL's recommended **2-inch round port (or equivalent slot area)**, the restricted air will whistle.
- • Can I use the 6W3v3-4 as a free-air / infinite baffle mid-bass driver in my rear deck?
No. This driver's compliance parameters are engineered strictly for tiny enclosed spaces. Running it free-air removes the necessary air damping, causing the suspension to lose control, distort immediately, and physically tear itself apart at moderate volumes.

Its smaller than the usual subs but I feel like it sounds better than many of those you can easily find the market today. bought it for my Tundra and they blend well with full ranges
